Year 6 Transition
Bexhill Academy Transition Programme: Leading the Way in East Sussex
At Bexhill Academy, we understand that the transition from primary to secondary school is a significant milestone for both students and parents. Our comprehensive transition programme is designed to ensure that every child feels welcomed, supported, and excited about starting their journey with us.
A Thoughtfully Designed Transition Programme
We have developed strong partnerships with local primary schools to create a seamless and supportive transition process. This includes:
- Early Engagement – Year 6 students are invited to events such as World Book Day celebrations (13 March) and creative workshops like our Easter card-making event (1 April).
- Primary School Visits – Our dedicated transition team visits all feeder schools from Term 3 onwards, meeting with Year 6 teachers and observing students in their current learning environments.
- Interactive Transition Lessons – We deliver engaging lessons and activities in Year 6 classrooms to introduce students to life at Bexhill Academy.
- Parent Information Evenings – We host Transition Evenings where parents can meet our staff, including form tutors, and receive key information.
- Extended Transition Days – Students experience life at Bexhill Academy with three dedicated transition days (30 June – 2 July), with additional support sessions on 3 and 4 July for selected students.
- Individual Support Meetings – We offer 1:1 meetings for families who require additional guidance.
- Transition Support Resources – Our website features dedicated transition support materials, including independent learning workshops, reading activities, and a summer transition booklet.
A County-Wide Model of Excellence
Bexhill Academy is proud to lead transition efforts across East Sussex, setting a high standard for best practices in student induction. Our proactive approach has been recognised for building strong connections between primary and secondary education, ensuring all students—regardless of their background or needs—feel confident and prepared for their next academic step.
Beyond the First Day: Ongoing Support
Transition doesn’t end in September. Our dedicated Year 7 induction programme extends throughout Term 1, providing structured tutor time sessions to help students settle in, form friendships, and develop independent learning skills.
Summer Transition Camp
To give students a further confidence boost, we run a Summer Camp (18 – 22 August), packed with fun activities and parent support sessions, ensuring a smooth transition into Year 7.
At Bexhill Academy, we don’t just prepare students for their first day—we set them up for success in their entire secondary school journey.
